Description island AmelandThe inhabited fairly large island of Ameland is part of (the island group) Wadden Islands and is located in the country of The Netherlands, Western Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 5.8 km. The surface-area of the island is 60.2 km2 and is therefore 0.159 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Wadden Sea and the total coastal length is about 58.1 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 24 km by 3 km (maximum width). The island is West - East oriented. The highest point is 24 meter and is named Oerdblinkert.
