Description island IcelandThe inhabited very large island of Iceland (local name Ísland) is located in the country of Iceland, Northern Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 980 km. The nearest (main) land is Norway and is not the country to which the island belongs. The island is West - East oriented. The highest point is 2110 meter and is named Vulkaan Öræfajökull.
