The inhabited fairly large island of Île de Ré is located in the country of France, Western Europe. The distance to the mainland is, quite close about 1 km. The surface-area of the island is 86.6 km2 and is therefore 0.228 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Bay of Biscay and the total coastal length is about 96.8 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 26 km by 5 km (maximum width). The island is West-northwest - East-southeast oriented. The highest point is 20 meter and is named Peu des Aumonts.
