Description island IslayThe inhabited large island of Islay (local name Ìle) is part of (the island group) Inner Hebrides and is located in the country of Great Britain , Western Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 21.5 km. The surface-area of the island is 611 km2 and is therefore 1.6 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Atlantic Ocean and the total coastal length is about 225 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 41 km by 26 km (maximum width). The highest point is 491 meter and is named Beinn Bheigier.
