Description island Mainland ShetlandThe inhabited large island of Mainland Shetland is part of (the island group) Shetland Islands and is located in the country of Great Britain , Western Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 167.3 km. The surface-area of the island is 970.3 km2 and is therefore 2.6 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the North Sea and the total coastal length is about 928.8 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 87 km by 35 km (maximum width). The island is North - South oriented. The highest point is 450 meter and is named Ronas Hill.
