Description island North UistThe inhabited large island of North Uist (local name Uibhist a Tuath) is part of (the island group) Outer Hebrides and is located in the country of Great Britain , Western Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 72.7 km. The surface-area of the island is 274.5 km2 and is therefore 0.723 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Atlantic Ocean and the total coastal length is about 471.1 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 26 km by 24 km (maximum width). The island is North - South oriented. The highest point is 347 meter and is named Eaval. The coordinates (latitude, longitude) of the island (center) for GPS are 57.61 (57°36'28.8792), -7.29 (-7°17'31.4196).The population is 1271 and the population density is thus on 4.63 inhabitants per square kilometer (compared Isle of Wight 364 inhabitants / km²).
