Description island RodosThe inhabited large island of Rodos (local name Ρόδος ) is part of (the island group) South Aegean and is located in the country of Greece, Southern Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 17.4 km. The nearest (main) land is Turkey and is not the country to which the island belongs. The surface-area of the island is 1401.9 km2 and is therefore 3.7 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Aegean Sea and the total coastal length is about 229.4 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 75 km by 38 km (maximum width). The island is Southwest - Northeast oriented. The highest point is 1215 meter and is named Attavyros.
