Description island SamosThe inhabited large island of Samos (local name Σάμος ) is part of (the island group) North Aegean and is located in the country of Greece, Southern Europe. The distance to the mainland is, quite close about 1.3 km. The nearest (main) land is Turkey and is not the country to which the island belongs. The surface-area of the island is 480.1 km2 and is therefore 1.3 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Aegean Sea and the total coastal length is about 150.9 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 45 km by 20 km (maximum width). The island is West - East oriented. The highest point is 1433 meter and is named Kerketefs . The coordinates (latitude, longitude) of the island (center) for GPS are 37.73 (37°44'1.3848), 26.81 (26°48'39.4956).The population is 33814 and the population density is thus on 70.83 inhabitants per square kilometer (compared Isle of Wight 364 inhabitants / km²).
