Description island SantoriniThe inhabited fairly large island of Santorini (local name Σαντορίνη ) is part of (the island group) Cyclades and is located in the country of Greece, Southern Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 172.6 km. The nearest (main) land is Turkey and is not the country to which the island belongs. The surface-area of the island is 76.8 km2 and is therefore 0.202 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Aegean Sea and the total coastal length is about 61.4 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 25 km by 6 km (maximum width). The island is North - South oriented. The highest point is 567 meter and is named Profitis Ilias. The coordinates (latitude, longitude) of the island (center) for GPS are 36.4 (36°23'54.1392), 25.44 (25°26'10.3992).The population is 13670 and the population density is thus on 151.00 inhabitants per square kilometer (compared Isle of Wight 364 inhabitants / km²).
