Description island South UistThe inhabited large island of South Uist (local name Uibhist a Deas) is part of (the island group) Outer Hebrides and is located in the country of Great Britain , Western Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 73.3 km. The surface-area of the island is 288.8 km2 and is therefore 0.76 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Atlantic Ocean and the total coastal length is about 318.6 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 35 km by 14 km (maximum width). The island is North - South oriented. The highest point is 620 meter and is named Beinn Mhòr.
