Description island ZakynthosThe inhabited large island of Zakynthos (local name Ζάκυνθος) is part of (the island group) Ionian Islands and is located in the country of Greece, Southern Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 16.4 km. The surface-area of the island is 409.3 km2 and is therefore 1.1 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Ionian Sea and the total coastal length is about 143.5 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 36 km by 17.5 km (maximum width). The island is Northwest - Southeast oriented. The highest point is 491 meter and is named Skopos. The coordinates (latitude, longitude) of the island (center) for GPS are 37.78 (37°47'5.6832), 20.78 (20°4'39.1584).The population is 38957 and the population density is thus on 96.00 inhabitants per square kilometer (compared Isle of Wight 364 inhabitants / km²).
